Tango fever heats up in Dubai this May
Tango fever is set to take Dubai by storm when an impressive line-up of international tango dancers hit the dance floor from 18-21 May, 2016 during the 8th Dubai Tango Festival. The festival will feature Argentine Tango workshops and performances, as well as a spectacular Gala Dinner Milonga with performances on Friday, 20 May, 2016 at The Meydan Hotel.
Performances and tango workshops will be conducted by renowned Argentinean Maestros including Alejandra Mantinan & Aoniken Quiroga, Ariadna Naveira & Fernando Sanchez, as well as Gisela Natoli & Gustavo Rosas.
“Alejandra Mantinan & Aoniken Quiroga are especially known in the international tango community as great tango innovators due to their spectacular and entertaining interpretation of tango. Due to their popularity and past success, it is their second visit to the UAE,” explained Eleanor Brodie, founder of tango in Dubai and consultant for the Dubai Tango Festival.
“The tango festival is a rare opportunity for tango enthusiasts to be taught by some of the best maestros in the business, whether you are a beginner or a more advanced dancer. And for those who love watching tango, but don’t fancy dancing themselves, they can see the experts performing live at the gala dinner milonga,” said Maya Saliba, organiser of the Dubai Tango Festival.
“This year our line-up of spectacular Argentinean Maestros will also be accompanied by professional Tango DJ’s Analia La Rubia, Tugba Tanoren and Dee Jay Gus, who will be adding a new electrifying mix to the event,” added Saliba.
Beginner, intermediate and advanced workshops will run for all three days. The milongas will also be held every evening from 10.00pm at Meydan, and all milonga ticket holders will be entitled to a complimentary one-hour tango initiation class (starting 9pm) before each milonga on the 18, 19 and 21 May.
“We are also pleased to announce that proceeds from this year’s event, as for the past five years, will be donated to Al Noor Training Centre for children with special needs,” added Brodie.
Tickets for the gala dinner and performance are priced at Dhs 350.00 per person, and include a buffet dinner with a selection of Argentinean beverages during the dinner.
